Case study 1: Algorithmic approach to renal management
Leakage of protein from the kidneys is a sign of worsening kidneys, which may led on to full blown kidney failure. Controlling blood pressure in people with such leakage is the main treatment option. However, with a wide range of medicines available to control blood pressure, doctors and nurses find it hard to choose the most appropriate agent and to titrate their doses whilst monitoring for a range of side effects as well as efficacy. We have helped a clinical team translate their initial paper-based concepts to a complex medical algorithm that’s easy for use. The project has won funding for a randomised controlled pilot trial.
