In the medical world, doctors often talk about ‘current practice’ and ‘general consensus’. In other words, there are many ways to skin a cat but a one (or two) of these would be considered by most as the ‘correct’ way to do things. Traditional channels of communication do not allow us to gauge such opinion accurately across a large set of experts.  The internet offers an excellent platform to do qualitative or quantitative studies.
